Margaret Doloris Patricia Foley Smith passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Severin Nursing Home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Their will be no visitation; friends and family are asked to meet at the church. Burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society and can be mailed to the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home at P.O. Box 624, Sesser, IL 62884.

She was born Oct. 13, 1936, in Princeton, N.J., to Walter and Bertha (Alford) Foley. She moved to Illinois in 1995 to be near her sister Mary Shurtz.

Craig L. Chamness, 43, of Rogers, Ark., died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, in a Bentonville hospital.

A memorial service for Mr. Chamness will be held at 4 p.m. today at the family home. Online condolences may be made at www.mem.com. Services are under the direction of the Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.

Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Hope Foundation.

Craig was born Dec. 26, 1964, in Benton to Mary Ann (Eskew) and Lyndell Chamness.

John Lester Gaither, 84, of Benton and a former Thompsonville resident, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Helia HealthCare in Energy.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. Gilbert Evans officiating. Burial will be in the Plasters Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery.

He was born on Jan. 27, 1924, in Franklin County, the son of John Riley and Mary (Summers) Gaither.

George J. Povich, 78, of Zeigler passed away at 6:42 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Herrin Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Povich will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Father Peter Hsu officiating. Burial will be at Zeigler Cemetery with military graveside rites courtesy of the Zeigler and Orient American Legions and the West Frankfort V.F.W. Visiting hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

George was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Chicago to Andrew Joseph and Alice Helen (Koller) Povich.

Virginia Elizabeth Williams, 84, of Rome Meadows in Dix and a former Benton resident, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, officiated by Jonathan Schnautz. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

She was born in Northeastern Arkansas on Feb. 26, 1924, the daughter of Dan and Ocea Pearl Burchell.

Norman Hugh Snider, 82, of Christopher died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at home.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, officiated by Brother Kurt Jensen. Burial will be in the Mulkeytown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Norman was born Jan. 7, 1926, in Christopher, the son of Hugh Snider and Lema Leathers. He was married to Della (Bullock) Snider, and she survives.

George J. Povich, 78, of Zeigler died at 6:42 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at the Herrin Hospital.

Joel N. “Jo Jo” Rolla of Christopher died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at home.

A funeral service is scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Burial will be in a private graveside service at the Harrison Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jo Jo was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Buckner, the son of Joseph and Dollie (Tatalovich) Rolla. He married Beverly (Sylvia) Rolla on Sept. 1, 1956.

Ella Mae Mikulonis, 82, of Sesser passed away at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008. 

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser Wednesday with Pastor Gene Outland officiating.

She was born Aug. 22, 1925, to James and Olga (Lance) Robinson. She married Pete Mikulonis on May 23, 1942, in St. Louis. They remained married for 59 years.

Maggie “Funny” (Cooper) Kelley, 86, of Benton went to be with Jesus on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Funny was born on Oct. 21, 1921, in Ware, the daughter of Jack Cooper and Patience (Stanley) Cooper.  She married Arnold “Doc” Kelley in 1939 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1971.

Margie G. (Stanley) Moyers, 87, of rural Franklin County passed away 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at her home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Moyers will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Church of Christ at Minor with Brother Donald Wright officiating. Burial will be at Miners Cemetery, east of Royalton. Visiting hours are from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler and after 12 p.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of the services.

E. Harrel Cato, 67, of Tampico died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at his home.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery with the Rev. Brent and Becky Barnett, pastors of the Faith Christian Church of Sheffield, co-officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Harrel was born on Dec. 15, 1940, in Zalma, Mo., the son of Sanford Elvie and Opal Elizabeth (Rea) Cato. He was united in marriage to Connie M. Burlend on May 31, 1986, in Tampico.

Finis Fasig, 72, of Benton died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at home.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, officiated by Pastor Charles McGhee. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.

Mr. Fasig’s wishes were to be cremated, and his ashes will be buried at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser following the memorial service on Tuesday.

Finis was born Oct. 19, 1953, in Christopher, the son of Rosco Fasig and Emma Flatt.
He was married to Bonnie (Key) Fasig, and she survives.

Charles Howard Williams, 89, of Benton died at 5:26 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at the Memorial Hospital, Carbondale.

Visitation was Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton. Funeral services were held Saturday at the funeral home. Burial was in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Charles Williams and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Mr. Williams was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Rexburgh, Idaho.

Timothy Byron Ponsetti courageously lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008.

A Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Johnsons Funeral Home Chapel, San Angelo, Texas. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Tim was born in Benton on Jan. 10, 1931, to John and Lillian Ponsetti and was the fifth of six children.
