NBC has released the first trailer for its upcoming pirate drama Crossbones, which stars John Malkovich as the infamous Blackbeard, and, like any good project about pirates, it features lots of sword play, explosions as well as some "unseemly conduct."

Set in 1715 in the Bahamas, the series centers on the first functioning democracy in the Americas, in which Edward Teach (a.k.a. Blackbeard) ruling over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. From Luther creator Neil Cross, Crossbones is based on Colin Woodard's book The Republic of Pirates.
