Organizers invite vendors and artisans to be a part of the planning process for the new Harrisburg Area Farmers’ Market coming this summer to Harrisburg Township Park.

At 6 p.m. May 7 at the Workforce and Illinois Small Business Development Center — 2nd floor of Old National Bank, rear entrance — the Harrisburg Area Farmers’ Market Committee will be hosting a meeting on how to become a vendor, according to a release from the Saline County Chamber of Commerce.

The farmers’ market to be held every Saturday, June 8 through Oct. 12, at the Harrisburg Township Park District from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saline County Chamber of Commerce is working in conjunction with the Harrisburg Township Park District along with Egyptian Health Department, Harrisburg Library, Saline County Farm Bureau, Southeastern Illinois College, U of I Extension, WEBQ and area volunteers to create the farmers’ market.

At the May 7 meeting committee members for the Farmers’ Market will be available to answer any questions future vendors and artisans may have. Egyptian Health Department will also be present to address procedures for selling home-made baked and canned goods.

Harrisburg Area Farmers’ Market organizers say they are excited to start serving as a venue for farmers, nurseries, bakeries, and specialty food producers along with local artisans in our area and surrounding communities. The goal is to create a diverse marketplace where area residents can enjoy purchasing locally grown produce and locally crafted items. The market will also feature weekly entertainment, kids’ area, and an opportunity for non-profits to have a free booth.

“We are very excited to be offering a market for local producers to sell their produce at a family friendly atmosphere to local area residents. This market will allow area residents to ‘Shop Saline County’ for fresh local produce” said Lori Cox, executive director of the Saline County Chamber of Commerce.
