The Christopher Area Youth Fishing Derby barbecue will be held this Saturday at the Christopher Columbian Club on North Snider Street.
Food service will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 6 p.m., and those in attendance can eat in or take plates to go. Some extra ribs have been ordered -- at least 50 -- so that a limited number of baby back or spare ribs will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Ribs are $18 per slab, and pulled pork is $8 per pound.
Customers also can get an $8 lunch that includes two sides, beans and slaw, with the pulled-pork sandwich. The popular barbecue nachos also will be available for $6, and drinks will sell for $1.
Volunteers are hopeful that the fundraiser will help to grow the event, the 22nd-annual Christopher Area Youth Fishing Derby, beyond the 60 kids that participated last year. The fishing derby for kids 15 and under will be held Saturday, May 6, beginning with registration at 8 a.m.
Barbecue for this Saturday has been prepared by Denny Franklin and his Swine'os Barbecue team. For more information, contact John Gaz at 618-724-2634.
