There will be something for everyone at the 2013 Saline County Fair said Chris Evans, the new fair board president.
Evans has taken the fair board presidency previously held by Dennis Wilson.

Evans has grown up around the fair. His parents, Danny and Nancy Evans, were 4-H leaders and he himself belonged to 4-H for 11 years. His father was fair superintendent in the past and shared his interest with his son.

"I have always had a lot of interest in the fair. The decision was made and they asked me if I wanted to be president of the Saline County Agricultural Association this spring. I really had no idea that Dennis Wilson was giving it up until January. When they asked me it was a bit of a surprise to me. But I know a lot of people and I know what goes on at a fair," he said.

Evans, who lives in rural Eldorado said there will be a mix of new and older events, such as the return of the tractor pull. The fair’s opening night is Sunday, July 21 and will feature a western style horse show.

“Sunday, July 21 there will be a western style horse show. On Monday the big draw will be the tractor pull. There will be a mix of souped-up tractors and fresh-off-the-farm tractors competing for $1,500 in prizes. Tuesday is pay one price day, a real money saver. Rides and events all for one price. Tuesday is also motocross day with $2,000 in prizes and trophies," Evans said.

Loud machines and flying mud have traditionally been a staple of the fair’s evening entertainment and this year’s fair is no exception.

"Wednesday will be the day for mud races. There will be pick-up trucks, Jeeps and four-wheel-drives," he said.

Thursday there will be 4x4s racing in the arena on a closed course.

Friday will be a big night. There will be a rodeo with bulls, barrel racing and team roping. Prize money will be $1,500. During last year’s fair the rodeo was canceled due to a storm.

"Saturday night is the demolition derby from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.," he said.

The carnival is managed by Trinity Amusements of Alabama.
