MARION -- The Marion High School wrestling team has left nothing on the mat this season.
"We've had a great run," said head coach Darren Lindsey.
The Cats finished the regular season as the South 7 Conference champs and shattered the school record for dual meet wins, finishing the regular season with a dual meet record of 32-5.
The old record was 25.
The 32 dual wins ties the Cats for 7th all-time in the IHSA.
In IHSA regional action last weekend, the Cats faced 18-ranked Mattoon.
"We knew it would take a huge effort to knock off the Green Wave," said Lindsey.
The Cats fought hard, but came up short, settling for a second-place finish, scoring 168 points to Mattoon's 205.
The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the Mascoutah sectional tomorrow. The Wildcats finished with seven qualifiers as well as four individual champions.
