OKAWVILLE -- Josh Heape put down a two-handed slam as part of his 18 points as the Du Quoin High School boys basketball team downed Trenton-Wesclin, 44-38, Friday night at the Okawville Invitational.
Heape scored nine of the 18 points in the third quarter as the Indians took a 36-29 lead into the fourth.
Du quoin was ahead 13-8 after the first period and led 23-19 at the half.
Braeden Pursell also hit double figures with 10 points, while Shamar Adams had six.
Dasani Edward and Kadin Mays both had four points and Carson Davis also scored.
The Indians improved to 9-10 with the victory.
A night earlier at the tournament, the Indians suffered a 76-40 drubbing at the hands of Madison.
Madison jumped out to a 21-6 lead and was ahead 33-22 at the break. The margin was 56-29 after three quarters.
Nobody reached double digits for Du Quoin. Heape was the leading scorer with nine points and Pursell had eight.
Also scoring were Anthony Cole (7), Jacob Green (6), Mays (5), Nick Cole (3) and Wade Roberson (2).
Du Quoin was slated to go back to Okawville on Saturday and face Waterloo Gibault but the winter weather changed that plan. The game might be made up later although that is unlikely.
The Indians play at Carterville this coming Friday.
