DU QUOIN -- The Du Quoin High School cross country teams hosted a Class 1A regional meet at the fairgrounds Saturday with both the boys and girls advancing to next weekend's Benton Sectional.
Du Quoin's girls won the team title with 49 points to beat Pinckneyville, Benton, Nashville and Carterville, who also advance to sectionals.
Benton's Amelia McLain was the individual champion in 18:32.
Du Quoin's runners were Gabby Alongi (3rd, 19:52), Olivia Phillips (5th, 20:04), Grace Alongi (8th, 20:35), Maddie Decker (11th, 20:54), Alexis George (22nd, 21:50), Chloe Hill (23rd, 21:57) and Maddie Robison (35th, 23:22).
Pinckneyville's runners were Dakota Krone (4th, 20:01), Taylor Kurtz (9th, 20:37), Cageny Kwiatkowski (12th, 20:57), Olivia Buza (15th, 21:20), Aubrey Bruns (19th, 21:43), Emma Francis (27th, 22:18) and Gayle Winter (31st, 22:47).
In the boys race, Du Quoin finished fourth and Pinckneyville was fifth to take the last advancing spots behind Steeleville, Benton and Nashville.
Sparta's Isaac Sinn was the individual champion in 16:21.
Du Quoin's runners were Carson Davis (12th, 17:16), Johnathan Gomes (13th, 17:17), Payton Hilliard (18th, 17:27), Wendell Killian (35th, 18:24), Landen Swiney (36th, 18:30), Nathan Smith (37th, 18:33) and David Gomes (44th, 19:03).
Pinckneyville's runners were Liam Oliver (7th, 17:02), Daniel Garavaglia (20th, 17:34), James Robb (26th, 18:02), Steven Hirte (30th, 18:08), Trent Morgenstern (34th, 18:22), Noah Conner (39th, 18:36) and Ethan Baggett (40th, 18:36).
