SESSER - The Lady Devils are continuing their winning ways at the start of this season.
Sesser-Valier/Waltonville matched up with rival Woodlawn on Wednesday. It was a back-and-forth match from the start, but the Lady Devils finished on top by the score of 34-31.
"If you just look at the quarter by quarter scores, you would wonder how we pulled it off. We actually lost three of the four quarters. However, the second quarter belonged to our defense. We caused quite a few turnovers that we capitalized on," said head coach Rick Metcalf.
The Red Devils went 0-13 from beyond the three-point line and never scored a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Leading the way for the Lady Red Devils was Paige Tucker with 14 points followed by Sami McCowen and Carlie Page with 8 and 7 points respectively.
Also chipping in were Rylee Breeze with 2 points, Jaycee Garner with 2 points, and Paolina Marlo with one point.
The Lady Red Devils hosted Chester on Saturday afternoon. SVW won by a 79-39 margin.
According to Metcalf, "This was a team effort win. All of the girls on the bench got to play and they all did their jobs. Scoring is being spread around. Great job both offensively and defensively."
McCowen and Brooke Wilderman led all scorers with 15 points each.
Page had 10 points with Tucker, Jaice McCowen, and Adrianna Fedderke each adding 8 points.
Peyton Wilderman chipped in 7 points, Ella Zahm had 4 points, and Breeze and Hannah Miller rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.
The Lady Devils are back in action this week with a game at Christopher on Thursday night, and then another at Webber Township on Saturday afternoon.
