MARION -- Using a lineup of mostly junior varsity wrestlers, the Marion High School wrestling team squeaked out a 42-41 win over Mt. Vernon on Tuesday night at Cuss Wilson Gymnasium.
The Wildcats are now 6-0 in dual matches this season.
Marion received forfeit points in five of the 14 weight classes.
Landon White gave the Wildcats six points for a pinfall at 132 pounds where he stuck Quincey Heard in the first period.
Those points were important because Mt. Vernon got a major decision win by Will Walton at 126 against Kaden Barber, then posted 12 points when Daniel Gilley was pinned at 145 and Jade Nappier was pinned at 152.
Noah James gave the Wildcats six points at 160 with a second-period pin of Dakota Shannon and Mt. Vernon got those back with a pin at 170 and added at 182 and 285.
But in between, the forfeit picked up by Joseph Moreno at 220 allowed the Wildcats to get the team win.
Marion wrestles at Herrin on Thursday.
