Logan men lose at buzzer in overtime

ULLIN -- A tip-in at the buzzer gave Shawnee College an 84-82 over time win over previously unbeaten John A. Logan College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference men's basketball Tuesday night.
Logan's Derek Hawthorne Jr. sank two free throws to tie the game at 82 with 5.8 seconds remaining in overtime.
Sayveon McEwen, who had 25 points, brought the ball down and put up a driving shot that was blocked by Logan's Damion Taylor. The blocked shot was picked up by Shomari Tillett of Shawnee and he put the ball back up and in as the buzzer sounded.
Logan trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half but came back to trail only 45-40 at the break on the 3-point shooting of Jaiveon Eaves, who had five triples and a team-high 19 points.
Logan took the lead with a 6-0 run to start the second half and the teams traded runs and leads the rest of the way. Regulation play ended in a 73-73 tie.
Daniel Soetan had 25 points for the Saints, who are 6-1 and 2-0 in the GRAC. The Vols are now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
