Pyramid Plus begins Monday night in Marion

MARION -- The Marion High School boys basketball team will open its new season with five games at home next week against some familiar friends at Cuss Wilson Gymnasium.
The Pyramid Plus tournament is back in Marion and tips off Monday night with Herrin playing Collinsville at 5:30 p.m., followed by Carterville against Mt. Vernon and finishing with Marion taking on Meridian.
Marion takes on rival Herrin in the middle game of Tuesday's session, then everybody takes two days off for Thanksgiving and resumes Friday night with Marion's game against Mt. Vernon tipping before Herrin battles Carterville in the late tilt.
Saturday is a double session starting at 10 a.m., with Marion playing Collinsville at 1 p.m. and then finishing the entire tournament at 8:30 p.m. against Carterville.
Marion opens its first season under new head coach Gus Gillespie.
The Wildcats have seven seniors on their opening roster, including guards Jaden Lacy, David Fletcher and Justin Saddoris, as well as big men Jordan Hollis, Cole Schafer, Terrell Henderson and Justin Johnson.
The juniors include Korey Houston, Mitchell Jackson, Kobe Tucker and Boston Ziegler. Sophomores on the varsity roster are Cavan Cameron, Lucas Will, John Bruce, Drake Gravatt, Daron Stucky, Frankie Horner, Clayton Bierman, Brett Lewis and Jackson Connor.
Connor started last season as a freshman and was awarded postseason honors.
Marion won last year's tournament with a 5-0 record.
