CENTRALIA -- Karsten Stotlar pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts to lead the Marion Junior High School baseball team to a 4-1 win over Mascoutah in the quarterfinals of the SIJHSAA Class L state tournament Saturday at Centralia's Rotary Park.
Trevor Jackson led off with a single and scored on a hit by Trace Bittle in the first inning.
Mason Gooch singled and scored on a sac fly by Stotlar in the fourth, then Jackson reached on an error and scored on a sac fly by Bittle in the fifth after Kale Cameron also reached on an error and scored.
Stotlar overcame an unearned run in the first inning and pitched around baserunners in the fourth and seventh innings to finish it off.
Marion (23-0) now plays Highland in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Tuesday back at Rotary Park.
In the other games, O'Fallon-Carriel edged Benton, 1-0; Millstadt slipped past Carterville, 5-4; and Highland blanked Salem, 2-0.
