The Rev. Dr. David P. Melvin, 36, of Peoria and formerly of Du Quoin, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at UnityPoint Health Methodist Hospital, in Peoria, Illinois.
David was born on Aug. 24, 1982 in Pinckneyville, the son of Paul and Sherry (Stowers) Melvin. He married Kendra R. McConachie on July 26, 2003, in Sparta.
David was the minister of the Mossville United Methodist Church in Mossville, Illinois, and was the former pastor of the United Methodist church in Steeleville and Percy.
Rev. Melvin was a member of the Mossville United Methodist Church, and the Society of Biblical Liturgy.
David is survived by his wife, Kendra R. Melvin, of Mossville; their children Malachi, Josiah and Eleanor, at home in Mossville; his mother, Sherry Melvin, of Du Quoin, his brother, Brian Melvin of Du Quoin; grandparents John and Shirley Stowers of Tamaroa and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Melvin was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Steeleville, with the Rev. James Tinzmann officiating.
Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery, Sparta.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to a Love Fund for the Family.
