Harry E. Border died May 28 in Glendale, Arizona.
He was born on June 15, 1934 in Harrisburg to Bessie and Harry Border. Harry went to school in Harrisburg from elementary through part of high school, before finishing high school and junior college at Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Missouri.
Harry had an alternate West Point appointment, but was selected for the Air Force Cadets program instead. After the Air Force, Harry went to Southern Illinois University Carbondale to work on a degree in applied science and engineering.
Harry was married for 62 years to Barbara (Dunn) Border, also of Harrisburg. He had two daughters, Debra and Teresa, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Throughout his career, he worked in aerospace and nuclear industries as well as the State Military Department for Arizona. One of his most memorable activities was being part of the "Partnership for Peace Department of Defense/NATO Program," which worked with Kazakhstan to improve their ability to function as a separate country from the Soviet Union.
He always loved airplanes, going to international airshows and aircraft museums across the world from Paris, France, to parts of England, Canada, and the U.S. He was very involved with the American Aviation Historical Society and the Commemorative Air Force. He was also a collector of manufacturers' aircraft models.
The funeral will begin at noon on Saturday, June 8 at Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church, 7201 W. Beardsley Road, in Glendale, Arizona.
