Dr. William R. Zinzilieta, 85, of Mt. Vernon passed away Feb. 23, 2019, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 10, 1933, in West Frankfort to the late Alexander and Domicella (Pavilonis) Zinzilieta. He married Mary E. Dalby April 24, 1965, in Benton, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by his sons, Paul Zinzilieta and Ross Zinzilieta and wife Becky, all of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren McKenzie, Maxwell and Alex, all of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Marcella Zinzilieta of Dewey, Ariz., and Marie Monteggia of Coello; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Zinzilieta was preceded in death by five brothers.

William proudly served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, in 1963 and later had his own chiropractic practice. He was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a longtime member and past president (1969) of the Kiwanis Club of Mt. Vernon. William was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 1 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2 at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with Father John Iffert and Brother Alan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Memorials in William's loving memory may be made to the SSM Health at Home Hospice or Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
