Abby Dinn has won her race for Franklin County state's attorney, claiming nearly three out of four votes and unseating the county's incumbent top prosecutor.

Dinn, an attorney with a private practice in West Frankfort, challenged the incumbent state's attorney, Democrat Phillip Butler.

With 34 of 35 precincts reporting, Dinn has 8,268 votes to Butler's 2,073. A total of 11,069 ballots have been recorded so far in the race. All vote totals are considered unofficial.

Butler conceded the race in a statement made just after 9 p.m.

"Congratulations to Abby Dinn on winning the election," he wrote on Facebook.

"And thank you to everyone that supported me, it has been a pleasure serving as the Franklin County State's Attorney."

Butler, a former public defender and assistant state's attorney in Franklin and Jefferson counties, was appointed in 2019 following the judicial appointment of former state's attorney Evan Owens.

Current vote totals may not yet include all ballots cast in this election, and they won't be final until canvassed by elections officials in two weeks.
