A Carbondale woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the offense of first-degree murder.

Jackson County State's Attorney Mike Carr says Rebecca B. Valentine, 44, entered a plea of guilty last week to the charge.

Carr says that during the early morning hours of Nov. 23, 2017, Carbondale Police responded to an emergency phone call for a person who was bleeding massively inside a Carbondale apartment. Upon arrival, officers located Reginal Glispie, 55, lying unresponsive inside the apartment with a stab wound to his chest. Glispie was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where he was later pronounced dead.

Valentine was present at the apartment when officers arrived. In a recorded interview with law enforcement, Valentine admitted to stabbing Glispie with a kitchen knife during an argument over her belief that he was spending time with another woman.

She is not eligible for early release or good time credit and must serve 100 percent of the sentence.
