HARRISBURG -- The musical comedy 'Matilda' will makes its theatrical debut in southern Illinois this weekend with performances at Southeastern Illinois College's George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center.

The Southeastern Illinois College Junior Falcons summer production is a stage version of the Roald Dahl story of the same name, a tale of an intellectually gifted young girl ignored and dismissed by her family who develops telekinetic ability.

The musical is directed by Harrisburg High School music director Hannah Drake and features talent from around the region. Young Olivia Sutton of Norris City plays the title role, while additional principals and other cast members come from Harrisburg, Eldorado, Carmi and other local communities. Several of the roles are dual cast, with principals exchanging parts depending on the performance.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students with reserved seating available. Shows are 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, June 29 and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30.
