The house at 804 W. Cherry St. has undergone a transformation since Darren Ackerman moved in, and now he has a Bright Spot Award to show for it. Neighbors told Keep Carbondale Beautiful, "It's a gorgeous place. He's done so much work on it," and "I love that house!"
The siding is back to the original wood and painted a deep teal. The sculpture in the front garden was salvaged by Ackerman from a neighbor's dying bush. He has a similar approach at garden store sale bins: "I just bring home what I like," he says. "I move things around constantly."
The KCB Board selects businesses or residences to receive the Bright Spot Award for enhancing the beauty of the community by means of revitalization of property, new construction, plantings and beautification, upkeep and maintenance, or rehabilitation.
To nominate a business or residence for a Bright Spot Award, call the Keep Carbondale Beautiful office at 618-525-5525 or email Bright SpotAward@gmail.com.
