The following incidents were obtained from Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones. Note that arrests, charges and citations are allegations only, not findings of guilt.

June 6

• A traffic stop at 11 a.m. in Benton resulted in the arrest of Kortrell D. Johnson Jr., 20, of Marion on a charge of unlawful display of registration and driving while license suspended.

• Deputies responded at 3:30 p.m. to a single-vehicle traffic crash on Spring Pond Road south of Benton. The investigation concluded that a 2014 Chrysler driven by Martin K. Yancey, 66, of Benton was eastbound when it traveled off of the north side of the road and struck a decorative brick mailbox housing. Yancey was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving while license suspended.

• Deputies arrested Clifford T. McGuire, 36, of Benton on a warrant for failure to appear for bad checks.

June 7

• Deputies responded at 6:50 p.m. to a single-vehicle traffic crash on Jefferson Street in Valier. The investigation concluded that a 1989 Mercury Cougar driven by Nichole L. Thorpe, 32, of Christopher was northbound when she lost control, ran off the east side of the road and struck a utility pole. The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and arrested on charges of obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. She is being held in the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $4,000 bond.

June 8

• Deputies responded at 12:01 p.m. to a two-vehicle traffic crash on Number 9 Blacktop just south of Rt. 149. The investigation concluded that a 2015 Chevrolet 3500 Pick-up truck driven by Henry F. Wulf, 62, of Mt. Vernon was traveling toward Rt. 149, and veered into the south bound lane and into the path of a 2010 Cadillac Escalade driven by Sharon L. Bowers, 77, of West Frankfort. There were no injuries, and Wulf was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

• Deputies arrested Jamie L. Meeks, 27, of Murphysboro on a warrant for failure to appear for aggravated identity theft.

June 9

• Deputies responded at 3:02 p.m. to a two-vehicle traffic crash on Rt. 148 and Elkville Blacktop. The investigation concluded that a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Bret A. Parini, 25, of New Burnside was southbound, lost control, and traveled into the northbound lane and into the path of a 2018 Ford Fusion driven by Dellal Snider, 61, of Christopher. She sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Abbott EMS. Parini was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

• A traffic stop at 8:48 p.m. in West Frankfort resulted in the arrest of Craig D. Alderson, 19, of Orient on a charge of driving while license suspended.

• Deputies responded at 10:24 p.m. to a two-vehicle traffic crash on Ewing Road at Log Cabin Road. The investigation concluded that a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up truck driven by Larry Todd Manker, 50, of Sesser was westbound on Ewing Blacktop when a 2017 Jeep Carryall driven by Danielle K. Venters, 21, of Ina, which had been northbound on Log Cabin Road, pulled into the path of the pick-up. Manker was not injured. Venters and a passenger in her vehicle, a 12-year-old female, sustained major injuries and were transported to a local hospital by Abbott EMS. Venters also was ticketed for failure to yield right of way and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

June 11

• A traffic stop at 5:37 a.m. in Macedonia resulted in the arrest of Jeffery B. Mclntosh, 47, of Grantsburg on a contempt-of-court warrant out of McHenry County.

• Deputies responded at 8 a.m. to a domestic dispute in rural Sesser. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Glenn R. Eubanks, 55, of Sesser on a charge of domestic battery.

• Deputies arrested Marranda K. Booten, 27, of Marion on a warrant for retail theft.

• Deputies arrested Bryan A. Johnson, 34, of Marion on a warrant for failure to appear for DUI.

• Deputies arrested Lamar A. Washington, 29, of Benton on a warrant for failure to appear on traffic charges.

June 12

• Deputies arrested Chase A. Smith, 31, of West Frankfort on a warrant for failure to appear for criminal trespass.

June 13

• Deputies responded at 10 a.m. to a two-vehicle traffic crash in Coello. The investigation concluded that a 2000 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Brittany M. Bryan, 20, of Coello was eastbound on Division Street and struck a bicycle that had been southbound on Parkdon Street. The bicyclist, Roscoe A. Dillinger, 62, of Coello, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Abbott EMS. Bryan was not injured and was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way and failure to reduce speed to avoid a traffic crash. The crash in still under investigation, and further charges are possible.

• Deputies arrested Cody L. Summers, 19, of West Frankfort on a warrant for failure to appear on traffic charges.

June 14

• Deputies responded at 5:28 a.m. to a single-vehicle traffic crash on Rt. 148 north of Zeigler. The investigation concluded that a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Eric M. Young, 22, of Christopher was northbound when he stated that he fell asleep, ran off the road on the west side, struck a ditch and overturned, and came to rest in the yard of a residence. The driver sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Abbott EMS. He also was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a traffic crash.

• Deputies arrested Bridge K. Reeder, 24, of West Frankfort on a warrant for failure to appear for possession of methamphetamine.

• Deputies arrested Gabrielle D. Bush, 43, of Mulkeytown on a warrant for failure to appear on bad checks.

• Deputies have made two arrests in a residential burglary and felony theft that had been reported the previous day. The residence is located in rural West Frankfort. Charged with residential burglary and felony theft are Zachary A. Sneed, 22, of Zeigler; and Linda F. Dobbins, 59, of Zeigler. The pair had been arrested by Zeigler Police the day of the reported burglary and were already in custody. The investigation is continuing, and more arrests and charges are possible.

June 15

• Deputies responded at 6:17 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a male subject had forcibly entered a residence in Buckner and attacked a male occupant with a claw hammer. The victim was transported to a local hospital by Abbott EMS for head injuries. The suspect fled the scene and was located shortly after 9 a.m. in rural Macedonia and arrested without incident. Christopher H. Shurtz, 48, of Buckner is in the Franklin County Jail charged with home invasion (class x felony), aggravated battery (class 3 felony) and unlawful violation of an order of protection (class a misdemeanor). These are tentative charges pending review by the state's attorney's office. Bond has not yet been set by the circuit court.
