JOHNSTON CITY -- Mike Intravaia has been a successful business owner for over three decades.
The owner of Michael's Ristorante in Johnston City, popular for Italian cuisine as well as Tuesday "wing night," Intravaia is now finding success in a different venue.
The founder of the Calcio Express Hawks Futbol Club that he began last year, Intravaia's teams are making splash on the pitch.
"We started last year training," said Intravaia. "Some of our kids had never played."
However, judging by the latest tournament win, that seems hard to imagine.
The Calcio Express U-10 boys team won the SI Spring Classic held in Evansville, Indiana on April 28-29.
Not only did they win all four games, they outscored their opponents 42-1.
With around 200 teams competing, the club defeated three Kentucky-based teams, the Madisonville Explosion (12-0), the Marshall County Dynamo (11-0), and the Murray-Calloway County Revolution (10-0), before ending a perfect tournament run against the Indiana SW Club, 9-1.
Intravaia, who has been playing soccer since he was a 6-year-old in Italy, is hoping to add to the ranks of the Calcio club.
The club will hold a tryout on May 14 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at its training field at 13851 RT. 37, Johnston City. The tryout is open to boys and girls in birth years from 2007 to 2010.
"We're looking to pick up 20 or so players," said Intravaia.
He hopes to complete a girls U-10 team, a boys U-9 team, as well as adding another team of U-11.
