The Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District No. 196 Board of Education and Administration would like to congratulate the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Randall R. Crocker.

In 2000, the board established the Distinguished Alumni Committee to honor alumni of Goode Barren Township High School, Valier High School and Sesser-Valier High School.

Born in Franklin County in 1953 to Jean and Burton R. Crocker, Randall is a life-long resident of Sesser. He graduated from Sesser-Valier High School in 1971 before attending Rend Lake College for two years. He then transferred to the University of Illinois, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in finance. Randall married Cindy (Hill) in 1986. They have raised three children, all of who graduated from the Sesser-Valier school district.

Randall began his own business, Crocker Construction, and remodeled and built homes full time until 1988. When his father was ready to retire from Crocker Insurance Agency, a locally owned business started by Randall's grandfather, Raymond J. Crocker, Randall bought the business and has successfully managed it for 30 years.

Randall has consistently been community minded and has worked very hard over the years for his community. He has served as a Sesser Homecoming board member and was instrumental in making the city park a better place to host the annual homecoming by building the Sesser park stage and the pavilion. He also built the Sesser Masonic Lodge.

Randall has served as a Rend Lake College Board of Trustees member for 16 years. He also served on the Franklin County 9-1-1 Board, the Southern Illinois Workforce Development Board and the Government Interinsurance Exchange. Randall has been a dedicated member of these civic boards for many years and has continued to be involved in improving his community and making Franklin County a better place to live.

Randall also has served as a Franklin County Board member since 2000, and presently serves as board chairman. He dedicates countless hours trying to bring economic growth to southern Illinois.

Randall is an excellent example of a Distinguished Alumni. He has worked for more than 40 years to make his community a better place. Faith, education, his family, his community and his country are very important to him, and he has worked tirelessly to be a guiding force for the betterment of his community.

In recognition for his years of dedication to the community of Sesser; to his family; and for his outstanding character, leadership and accomplishments, Mr. Crocker will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award at the Sesser-Valier High School graduation this month. Mr. Crocker also will be publicly honored on the Sesser-Valier High School Wall of Fame, located in the high school commons area.
