Girl Scouts to set up at Lights Fair
The Girl Scouts will hold a regional registration event this weekend at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds Exposition Hall. The effort, done in conjunction with the Holiday Lights Fair, will run from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 15 to 17. Local Girl Scout volunteers will have an information booth available for anyone interested in joining Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois actively develop Girl Scout leadership programs for 12,400 girls while engaging 5,000 adult volunteers in more than 40 counties in southern Illinois. The cost to join Girl Scouts is $25, and financial assistance is available for girls and volunteers who quality.

Effort underway to collect food items
The Marion Eye Center location in Du Quoin will be collecting food and other items for the needy through Dec. 15. The effort, intended to help needy families in southern Illinois and southeastern Missouri, involves the collection of nonperishable food items, toiletry items or gifts of monetary value. Items may be brought to the Du Quoin office at 821 S. Washington St. or the Pinckneyville office at 401 S. Walnut St. Items will be distributed evenly among area food pantries. Those who make a donation will be entered into a raffle to win a gift from doctors and staff.

Sacred Heart greeting cards
Greeting cards featuring the stained glass windows at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin are on sale this holiday season to support the restoration of the windows.
