Harrisburg High School speech team nabs second place at tourney

HARRISBURG -- The Harrisburg High School Speech Team placed second at its most recent tournament on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, according to head coach Tina Mondino.

Thirteen teams participated in the tournament. Waterloo High School won with 562 points. Harrisburg garnered 538 points for its second-place finish.

Individual event winners were Maddi Kennedy and Jasmine Teston in varsity dramatic duet acting; Ravyn Gauch in varsity dramatic interpretation; Addie Hanks and Javen Wendler in varsity humerous duet acting; Kaylee Robinson in varsity oratorical declamation; Aruniti Manawa in varsity original oratory; Maddi Kennedy in varsity poetry; Jasmine Teston in varsity prose; and Hayden Gaskins in junior varsity informative.

The team also tied for second place at the Granite City tournament and placed second at the Marion High School tournament.
