On Tuesday, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary President Mardell Granger awarded Pathfinder Jacob Golding with a $500 scholarship.

Golding was the recipient of the scholarship based on a written reflection essay and evaluations from participating department managers from the Medical Path, which Golding chose to pursue.

During the course of a semester, eight students were selected to participate in the newly-piloted program offered by Memorial Hospital. The Pathfinder Program was offered in January to Chester High School Students who were interested in pursuing a career in either the medical or business field.

The program offered a job shadowing opportunity for qualifying students.

"We are excited to be offering this program to our area youth," said Susan Diddlebock, chief nursing officer for Memorial Hospital. "Often times, students are unaware of the possibilities within healthcare.

"This program will give them the opportunity to have a hands on experience of different areas."

Memorial Hospital will be opening the program to other area schools this fall.
