Quick action by two Du Quoin Police officers likely resulted in saving a baby's life.
Chief Jamie Ellermeyer says officers responded around 1:45 p.m. Feb. 5 to 645 W. Park St. and found a month-and-a half-old baby that was not breathing.
Officer Chris Robinson and Officer Cale Bastien were informed that the ambulance would be coming from the Pinckneyville area, so Robinson took control of the infant and performed CPR while Bastien transported Robinson and the infant to Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Ellermeyer said Robinson and Bastien’s quick action definitely made a difference and that both will be commended for their actions.
The infant subsequently was flown to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
