Texas man charged in incident

BENTON — A Texas man has been arrested following an incident near a Franklin County business on Tuesday evening.
Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones reports deputies responded to Donna's Sweetwater on Illinois Highway 14 shortly before 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of an injured patron.
Deputies located and identified the injured person as 48-year-old Shannon Duke of Tennesee. Duke suffered a facial injury as well as a laceration to the back of his heat.
Through an investigation, it was determined Duke has been battered by 42-year-old Danny Strickland from Texas. Strickland was taken into custody without incident and issued a non traffic complaint for aggravated battery. Strickland remained in jail Wednesday pending the procurement of bail, which had not been set by the newspaper's deadline.
Duke was transported to the Franklin Hospital where he was initially treated. He was later transported to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Tennessee.
