Brenda Owen was the guest speaker at the Aug. 21 meeting of the Chester Rotary Club, talking about the historic Stone Cottage adjacent to the Randolph County Courthouse in Chester.

A special event will be held at the cottage from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, called "Sit a Spell at the Stone Cottage," where the public will be invited to tour the home, relax in rocking chairs and observe demonstrations of quilting, crocheting and wood carving.

There will be homemade bread, jam, butter and lemonade for sale and activities for children.

The Stone Cottage was placed on the National Register of Historic Places this year and right at 1 p.m. Sept. 8, a ceremony to dedicate a plaque to that effect will be held.
