Four talented performers become “The Marvelous Wonderettes” on the Eldorado High School cafeteria stage 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

While they become the performers, the audience becomes prom attendees.

“It’s about four high school girls at their senior prom in the 1950,” Reagan Gray said.

Those girls also include Sarah Baldwin, Callie Smith and Madison Miller.

The first act is the teenagers’ performance. The second act is their encore performance at their 10 year class reunion.

“You can see the growth in their character by their musical numbers,” Director Miranda Cain said.

“It’s really a super cute show,” Gray said.

The performance also involves audience participation. The audiences takes on the role of teens at the dance watching their classmates’ on stage and the audience will have an opportunity to vote for prom queen. The audience will also be served diner-themed food.

The show has been in rehearsal since March and interrupted by other extracurricular activity demands, by the senior trip and by spring break, but the performers say they are ready.

“It’s been challenging. All the songs are mainly four-part harmonies,” Gray said.

Through the 25 songs, Cain said the audience will realize the star within the show is the vocal range of the singers.

“They are not just actors, not just singers, they are performers,” Student Director Alex Jones said.

“It’s a small cast, but a big performance,” Cain said.

Jones said the audience might be caught off guard in a few places as mistakes were written into the script. A flawless vocal performance by teenagers not accustomed to stage lights would not be realistic.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
