DHS cheerleaders fifth at state
The Du Quoin High School cheerleaders (pictured) competed on Jan. 3 at the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association (ICCA) Championships in Springfield. The Lady Indians won fifth place in small varsity. Sesser cheerleaders won the tournament. Pinckneyville cheerleaders were 11th. There were 20 teams competing in the small varsity category. This is only the second time Du Quoin has ever competed in ICCA and it was their highest finish. The girls are coached by Pam Pursell. Team members are Allie Fred, Whitney Pierce, Shiann Adams, Samantha Gross, Abby Doerr, Kayle Armstrong, Haley Kuhnert, Quinn Kirkpatrick, Mercedes Day, Olivia Cravens, Josie Bailey, Skye Westerhouse, Hope Stewart and Avery Shivley. In addition ICCA announced the 2015 Senior Scholar Athletes who excel academically. Four Du Quoin seniors were honored: Kayle Armstrong, Abby Doerr, Samantha Gross and Whitney Pierce.
