
The state budget is at impasse, but local lawmakers' war chests still flush
In the last six months, three Southern Illinois state representatives received more than $200,000 each from the leaders of the state's Democratic and Republican parties. Another took in more than $1.5 million from the same sources. The money comes with the intent of fueling 2018 re-election bids and providing lawmakers with the incentive to toe the party line on tough votes.
