SIU's Pohlmann wins at U.S. Masters swimming finals

  • Saluki Masters swimmers John and Mary Pohlmann returned home victorious from the U.S. Masters Swimming Summer National Championship Aug. 3 to 7 in Richmond, Va. During the five-day event, Mary Pohlmann won the 400 meter individual medley, setting a new Ozark region record for the 75-79 age group women. She also took second place in the 50 meter backstroke and third place in the 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle events. She also swam on the sixth-place 200 meter freestyle relay as the lead-off swimmer for the St. Louis Area Masters 240+ age group women's team. She set a total of five new Ozark region records including the 50 and 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 400 individual medley. About 1,100 swimmers ages 18 to 100 swam in the five-day event.
