Rend Lake College has announced that Corey Phillips of Belle Rive will be the new men's golf head coach this season.
Phillips is a 2003 graduate of RLC. He played on the college's golf team from 2001 to 2003. In addition to college experience, Phillips was McLeansboro Golf Club's club champion in 2007 and 2012. He won the Fairfield Open in 2009 and was a team member of Tony Stevens Cup Matches 9-Hole Division Champions in 2007, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
Phillips is familiar with the college and its students. He has worked there since 2005 as manager of the RLC Golf Outlet (2005 to 2013), director of the RLC Marketplace (2013 to 2021), and most recently as the director of auxiliary services (2021 to present).
"I'm looking to help develop my players both as golfers and as young men," Phillips said. "Their education at RLC will always be the top priority, and we will represent Rend Lake College and the district in a positive and respectful manner. Last but not least, we will be competitive. Golf is an individual sport in most cases, so being part of a team is very special and a unique opportunity. My goal is for my players to come together as a unit and play not only for themselves but for the RLC district and each other. This will elevate their game and drive each of these young men to work harder for each other. I look forward to building new relationships and doing all in my power to help continue the long-standing tradition of success of the RLC Warriors men's golf team. I am a Rend Lake guy, and it's a true honor for me to be leading this team."
