Legion Baseball: Post 167 splits with Evansville Pate

The Harrisburg Sons of American Legion baseball team capped off its week by going 3-1, starting off with a 11-1 win over Mayfield, Ky. Post 26, beating Newburgh, Ind. Post 44 14-6, before splitting with Evansville Pate losing 8-5 in Game 1 and then beating Post 265 12-1 in Game 2.
In the 12-1 win Saturday, Post 167 had 12 hits at the plate with Jack Ford going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Braden Burtis and Logan Croley each had a pair of hits.
Gavin Smith, Ethan Golish, Brendan Bergan, Jackson Pittman and Blake Stacey all had one hit, while Croley drove in a team-high six runs.
Smith, Brutis, Bergan, Pittman and Rider all had one RBI, while Burtis joined Ford with three runs scored. Croley scored two runs, while Cam Ande, Golish, Bergan and Pittman all had one run scored.
On the mound, Ross Rider went five innings, striking out right and walking two, while allowing one run on three hits.
In the 8-5 loss, Harrisburg had 10 hits, led by a pair of multiple hit days from both Ande and Burtis.
Ande scored a team-high three runs, while Burtis had a team-high two RBI day.
Riley King, Ford, Golish, Croley, Pittman and Bergan all had one hit.
On the mound, Post 167 used five pitchers with Drew Hawkins getting the start. Hawkins went two innings, allowing three runs on three hits with three Ks and one walk.
Sam Endres went two innings and allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Peyton Arnold worked three innings of relief, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits, while Golish and Burtis combined to close out the game.
Up Next: Harrisburg will now prepare for play in the Battle of Omaha, beginning Thursday when Post 167 will play New Ulm Gold, Minnesota, starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by Gross, Nebraska at 7 p.m.
