Prep Track & Field: Bulldogs take second at Buzz Bradley Invitational

Harrisburg finished second overall and had four first place finishes at the Buzz Bradley meet late last week.
Tony Keene set a new freshman/sophomore record in the pole vault, going 13-foot-6 and is now ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, while the Harrisburg sophomore also set aa PR in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.20.
Andrew Unthank had the other two first place finishes for Harrisburg, setting a PR in the shot put with a toss of 43-feet-11 and a discuss throw of 139-feet-7 for another PR.
Second place finishes were awarded to Keene in the long jump, clearing 20-feet-5 (PR) and was second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.76.
Karmello Downey went 9-foot-6 in the pole vault for second place and finished third in the triple jump and 300 hurdles, while Nate Lawrence had a third-place finish in the high jump.
"We had a couple individuals that really stepped up and had a nice day for us," Harrisburg head coach Zach Cox said. "Tony had a superb performance in the vault, as we struggled early on with the wind and the approach, but he fought through it and then found his rhythm. Andrew Unthank had a monster day as well with 2 big PR's in the shot put and discus that were good enough to win the meet.
"Also, Karmello Downey has been our 'do-it-all' guy this year and had a solid day for us. Tevin Godsey picked up a couple top-6 finishes and we haven't seen the best of him yet. Gabe Swarringin was 4th in the discus, and Chandler Questelle rounded out the individual scoring with 6th in the 110 high hurdles. Overall it was a great day for our program. We're very young but the kids are hungry for success and getting better and better every single week."
Herrin won the meet with 126.5 points, while Harrisburg was second with 106 points. Madison (79.5), Steeleville (63) and Pinckneyville (61) rounded out the top five.
