The CHS Lady Jackets played three games in Week 3 of the 2022 season. Chester fell 5-1 at Carlyle Tuesday, March 29; got rained out Wednesday, March 30, at Gibault; beat Okawville Friday, April 1; and lost to Frankfort Saturday, April 2.

The Jackets are now 2-5 on the season and are 1-1 in the Cahokia Conference.

Carlyle 5, Chester 1

Chester opened the Cahokia Conference portion of the 2022 season Tuesday, March 29, at Carlyle. Both teams scored in the first inning and were tied 1-1. Neither team scored in the second or third innings, and the score remained knotted at 1-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Carlyle scored 1 run and then added 3 more runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 5-1. Chester was unable to get around the bases the rest of the game, giving Carlyle the win.

Both teams recorded 8 hits, but 3 errors hurt the Lady Jackets and helped the Lady Indians to secure the victory.

Ashlyn Colvis knocked in Chester's only run of the game in the top of the first. Faith Weaver's solo home run in the fourth broke the 1-1 tie and gave Carlyle the 2-1 lead. The Indians sealed the win in the fifth inning on a single by Emma Meyer, then added 3 runs.

Carlyle's pitcher Meyer took the win and Chester's Emma Eggemeyer got the loss. In spite of the loss, Chester did have a decent day at the plate with Kylie Fortner, Colvis, and Elaina Lutman each recording 2 hits apiece, and Anna Childs and Camryn Luthy contributing singles. Colvis had the only RBI of the game for CHS.

With the loss, Chester fell to an overall record of 1-4 and started the Cahokia Conference season with a record of 0-1.

Chester 8, Okawville 1

After getting rained out two days in-a-row, Chester managed to play Friday, April 1, at home, hosting the Okawville Lady Rockets. The Jackets scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first when Colvis knocked in Chester runners to take a 2-0 lead.

After holding Okawville scoreless in the top of the second, CHS had a huge 4-run bottom of the inning led by Childs and Kourtney Welton. Colvis also hit a single, and Fortner blasted a double to increase Chester's lead to 6-0 after two innings.

Okawville got on the scoreboard in the top of the third but could not manage to score again, and the Lady Jackets won the game 8-1 after adding 2 more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Eggemeyer got the win for Chester and only allowed 3 hits and 1 run over seven innings of play. She also struck out five Rocket batters. Hettenhausen took the loss for Okawville after going just 1 2/3 innings and allowing 5 hits and 6 runs. She struck out two CHS batters.

In the win, the Jackets recorded 6 hits on 4 singles, 1 double and 1 triple. CHS also had 7 RBI's, and nine runners on base. Fortner was huge at the plate with a double and triple. With the win, the Lady Jackets improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Frankfort 6, Chester 4

The Jackets traveled to Frankfort Saturday, April 2, for an early morning nonconference match up. The Lady Jackets roared out of the dugout in the top of the first inning and scored 4 runs to lead 4-0 after a half inning of play.

Frankfort answered in the bottom of the first with 2 runs to bring it within 2. The next four innings were dormant with neither team able to score.

In the bottom of the sixth, Frankfort managed a huge 4-run scoring spree to take the lead. The Jackets were not able to recover.

In the loss the Lady Jackets managed 5 hits with Childs, Welton, Eggemeyer, Fortner and Colvis contributing one single apiece. Fortner and Welton recorded doubles.
