Chester hosts first home track meet

Boys are runners-up; girls place third

  • CHS senior Maria Nickle finished seventh in the 1600-meter (1-mile) run Tuesday, March 29, at the first home meet of the 2022 season. Nickle turned in a time of 7:35.6 to help the Lady Jackets finish third out of seven teams.

The Chester YellowJackets and Lady Jackets hosted their first home meet of the season Tuesday, March 30, at the Charles R. Young Memorial Track and Field Complex on the campus of Chester High School.

The CHS boys placed second out of eight teams while the girls finished third out of seven teams.

In the boys division, the Nashville Hornets placed first with 140 points. They were followed by Chester (2nd, 117); Steeleville (3rd, 101); Sparta (4th, Tie, 59); Red Bud, (4th, Tie, 59); Waterloo Gibault (6th, 28); Eldorado (7th, 21); and New Athens (8th, 1).

The girls division was won by Nashville with 203 points, followed by Murphysboro (2nd, 130); Chester (3rd, 68); Red Bud (4th, 66); Sparta (5th, 59); Steeleville (6th, 11); and Waterloo Gibault (7th, 6).
