Benton put eight players in the scoring column, but a collective four-point third quarter did in the Rangers as they fell 44-29 to Mt. Carmel Saturday.
Luke Melvin led all scorers with seven points, while Ira Peach scored six points. Isaac Billington and Chase Thomas each finished with four points, while Keegaan Glover, Landon Bolen, Reid Baumgarte and Landon Croslin all had two points.
Mt. Carmel grabbed a 10-5 first quarter lead, but Benton was able to fight back before halftime, outscoring the Aces 10-6 and go in down one, 16-15.
Only Billington and Baumgate were able to score for Benton in the third quarter as the Rangers were outscored 18-4 and trailed 34-19, going into the game's final eight minutes.
Benton played at Carmi-White Co. Tuesday and will make the trek to West Frankfort Friday for a SIRR Ohio contest.
