For all intent and purposes, there are still more than 50 days until the golf postseason for the IHSA.
However, over the weekend, Benton looked in midseason form as the Rangers opened the season with a second-place finish at the IHSA Showcase in Seneca.
Hinsdale Central, a 3A school, won the event with a 289, while Benton had the best 2A school score with its second place showing of 294.
The remainder of the top five belonged to Lockport (297), Ottawa (304) and Breese Mater Dei (306).
Not missing a beat from where he left off last season, Benton junior Cy Norman took home medalist honors after firing a 70. The recognition was the 22nd career medalist honors Norman has received in his time at BCHS.
River Stilley finished in a tie for third after carding a 71, while Andrew Bell picked up a 14th place finish after firing a 75. Dash Cantrell rounded out the team scoring, shooting a 78 and finished in a tie for 29th.
Nick Melvin also tied for 29th with a 78, while Luke Melvin concluded his day with an 80.
The Rangers kick off the home portion of the schedule Thursday, when they play host to Mt. Vernon and Centralia, starting at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Benton plays in the Rend Lake Invitational, beginning at 1 p.m.
