CHARLESTON -- The temperature was hot but the Marion High School Boys Track team was hotter.
The team medaled in seven events, earning enough points to finish seventh in the state in the Illinois High School Association Class 2A State Championship.
The team was strong in field events. Kane Carter took the 8th spot in the shot put with a throw of 14.73 meters.
Carter bested that finish, taking the 6th spot in the discus throw with a toss of 46.78 meters.
The Wildcats placed two in the top 10 in the pole vault. Colin Beers finished 6th with a vault of 4.46 meters while teammate Dyson Royce finished 3rd with a vault of 4.67 meters.
Vinson Newsom was 13th in the long jump.
However, the story of the day for the Cats was Bryson Wilson, who medaled in all three of his events.
Wilson took 4th in the long jump with leap of 6.86 meters.
He then scampered his way to a 7th place finish in the 400 dash with a time of 50.24.
Finally, Wilson, Newsom, and teammates Tommy Wiseman and Kaden Barber took 6th in the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.10.
