Eagles pick up split over weekend

It was a weekend split for the Eldorado boys' basketball team as the Eagles knocked off Edwards County 54-44 in overtime Saturday on the road. The victory was bookended by a 81-48 loss at home to Fairfield Friday night.
Aiden Whitlock, who had a team-high 18 points in Friday night's loss to Fairfield, led the Eagles with 15 points, including seven of the Eagles' 16 in OT to fend off the Lions.
Bryant Byrd had 11 for EHS, including four in overtime, while Nolan Henson just missed out on double figure scoring, netting nine points. Parker Price scored seven for the Eagles, while Will Bethel and Gage Heath each tacked on three points.
Eldorado opened the game with a 9-7 first quarter lead as the Eagles got buckets from Henson and Byrd. EHS led 21-18 at halftime, but the game seesawed in the second half as Edwards County outscored Eldorado 10-7 in the third quarter to tie the game at 28-all and then a 10-point fourth quarter from the Eagles kept the game knotted at 38-all at the end of regulation.
The Eldorado junior varsity team picked up a 59-32 win over Edwards County Saturday night, highlighted by a pair of 12-point scoring performances from Dylan Henshaw and Josh Owens. Gage Heath also finished in double figures, scoring 11 for the Eagles.
Trevor Milligan and Canon Weatherly each added eight points. Isaac Barnett finished with four, while Brock Cantrell and Steven Dogged each tacked on two points.
Fairfield 81, Eldorado 48
In the loss to Fairfield, the Eagles put nine players in the scoring book, led by a team-high 18 points from Aiden Whitlock.
Will Bethel also finished in double figures for EHS, tossing in 10 points, while Josh Owens finished with four points. Four players finished with three points, including Boston Bradley, Dylan Henshaw, Gage Heath and Isaac Barnett.
Nolan Henson and Parker Price all had two points.
Landon Zurliene, who went over the 1,000th point mark this past weekend, led all scorers with 32 points. The Mules' Noah McElravy tacked on 13 points and Brandon Lane tossed in 12 to finish in double digits.
Fairfield jumped out to an 11-8 lead after the first quarter, but thanks in part to 17 points by Zurliene in the second quarter, the Mules outscored Eldorado 30-16 and led 41-24 aft halftime.
The Fairfield junior varsity team posted a 64-49 win Saturday.
Eldorado got a team-high 15 points from Josh Owens, while Gage Heath added 11 points for the Eagles.
Boston Bradley added eight points for EHS, while Isaac Barrett scored seven points. Trevor Milligan, Brock Cantrell, Dillon Henshaw and Cannon Weatherly all had two points.
