Benton put together a rally, outscoring Cairo 13-9 in the final eight minutes, but fell 52-51 Friday night at Rich Herrin Gymnasium.
Reece Johnson had a team-high 13 points for the Rangers (1-2), while Reid Baumgarte tossed in 10 for Benton.
Wyatt McClintock netted nine and Mitch Giacone added eight points. Ira Peach scored six points for Benton, while Jacob Seidel finished with five points.
Benton trailed 18-6 after the first quarter and were down 32-23 at halftime. The Rangers began their rally in the second half, outscoring Cairo 13-11 and trailed 43-36 going into the fourth quarter.
Benton is at Murphysboro Saturday and are scheduled to play at Harrisburg Tuesday. The Rangers will then play at Massac County Friday, followed by a game at Anna-Jonesboro on Saturday.
