Benton takes home both titles at SIRR Ohio meet

The Benton boys' cross country team captured its fifth Southern Illinois River-To-River Conference Ohio Division championship, while the Rangerettes won their third crown in as many season as both dominated the field at Thursday's conference meet at Riverside Park in Murphysboro.
The Rangers scored 16 points as Reece Johnson took first place overall with a time of 16:25 and Benton had four runners in the top four.
Herrin took second with 47 points, while West Frankfort was third with 73 points. Murphysboro (76), Massac County (147) and Harrisburg (149) rounded out the team scoring.
In addition to Johnson, Gavin Genisio was second overall with a time of 16:44 and Chase Owens tacked on a third place finish, crossing the line at 17:30. Parker Sieveking finished fourth with a time of 17:31.
Mason Teiffel was sixth overall, finishing with a time of 17:35, while Roman Rechsteiner was 20th, crossing the line at 19:48 and Holden Allsopp was 29th, finishing with a time of 21:18.
The Benton girls scored 25 points and beat Muphysboro (56), Herrin (81), West Frankfort (87) and Massac County (121).
The Rangerettes had five runners finish in the Top 10 as Mia Wills paced BCHS with a second place overall finish and a time of 20:32. Right behind was teammate Hailey Wallace, who took third with a time of 20:42.
Peyton Tiefel had a time of 21:09 for a fifth place finish, while Addisyn Miller scored a sixth place finish with a time of 21:32. Blakely Johnson rounded out the top 10 performances, netting a ninth place finish with a time of 22:17. Brooklyn Frailey was 34th for Benton, turning in a time of 27:21.
