Kyle Geiger, the baseball coach and a physical education teacher for Du Quoin Unit District 300, has stepped down from coaching the middle school baseball team.
Geiger will remain a P.E. teacher at the elementary school and the head baseball coach for the Du Quoin Indians. The school board accepted his resignation as middle school coach on Monday. He took over the middle school baseball program in 2017 and compiled a record of 36-26 in three years.
In 2018, Du Quoin Middle School won a regional championship and advanced to the SIJHSAA state tournament, where the Indians were bested by Highland, who would end up winning the Class L championship.
Last season, DQ finished 17-5, including a 10-game win streak.
"My wife was hired as the principal at Zeigler-Royalton Elementary/Junior High and with many conversations we felt it was best that I resign as the middle school coach," Geiger said in a statement to the Du Quoin Call.
"We discussed trying to make the schedule work around her job and our kids, but felt it was best that I step down."
