After a third place finish Saturday at Collinsville, the Harrisburg boys' bowling team will advance to the state tournament for the first time in 10 years.
Herrin claimed the sectional championship, while Belleville East took second. Joining Harrisburg in the state tournament will be Anna-Jonesboro, Mascoutah and Collinsville.
Senior Devin Davis and Sebastian Barton led the way for the Bulldogs with a 1303 and a 1298, respectively.
Freshman Evan McDermott and senior Brock Bergman supported nicely with a 1229 and a 1176.
"There is a lot to be said for peaking at the right time," HHS head coach Doug Cottom said. "We we kept getting better as the season wore on and we have played our best the last two Saturdays.
"This is a great accomplishment and great reward for our three seniors to be able to play in the state tournament. Getting there is a battle and I am so proud of all of them and we would not have gotten there without our role players, Jaden Oglesby and Josh Smith really stepped up when we needed them."
The IHSA State Tournament will begin Friday at 9 a.m., where the 24-team field will be cut in half to the Top 12 for Saturday play.
