The outcome wasn't in doubt after the first quarter.

"I thought we had a really good first half effort, running the floor and getting shots at the rim against their zone," said Pinckneyville Coach Alan Engelhardt after Wednesday's 41-21 home win over Herrin.

The Panthers had a 15-5 lead after the first quarter, a 31-9 edge at halftime, a 37-16 lead after three and the 42-21 victory.

"Our zone was good for us tonight as well," Engelhardt said. "I thought the girls did a nice job of keeping the ball out of the paint.

"We are a much better team when Payton is getting us baskets down low, and once again, Kenzie Rushing did a good job of running our team."

Panther scoring: Haliegh Kling 2; Ashlee Hirsch 1; Emily Ruppert 2; Lily Tanner 7; Aubrey Bruns 2; Lily Britt 1; Kenzie Rushing 17; and Payton Morgan 10.
Herrin scoring: Madisyn Blankenship 3; Taylor Cornelius 1; Ashton Hawk 2; Caitlin Kochan 5; Presli Karnes 2; and Layla Wade 8.
3-Pointers: Pinckneyville 1 (Rushing); Herrin 1 (Blankenship).
