Rangerettes send three to state tennis meet

HERRIN -- One singles player and one doubles team for the Rangerettes qualified for the state tournament at Buffalo Grove this weekend after faring well at the Herrin Sectional this past Saturday.

The singles player who qualified for Benton is Taylor Moore. The sophomore received a first-round bye and sandwiched two wins around two losses to finish fourth. Her wins came against Ge of Carbondale (6-0, 6-0) and Smith of Carmi-White County (6-2, 7-5). Her losses came against Szidik of Marion, who finished first overall (6-2, 6-2) and Blankenberger of Carmi-White County (6-2, 6-2).

The Benton doubles team of sophomore Madison Kreiner and senior Kaitlyn Younger placed first overall. The duo received a first-round bye and then proceeded to post wins over Milligan/Smith of Carmi-White County (6-2, 6-3); Zilafro/Hanks of Waterloo (6-0, 6-1); Nesler/Weber of Herrin (6-3, 6-4); and Newman/Meador of Carbondale (4-6, 6-3, 6-2).
