MARION -- Blake Clark scored five goals as the Marion High School girls soccer team blasted Mt. Vernon, 7-0, Tuesday evening at Wildcat Stadium.
Clark had a hat trick in the first half. Her first goal was assisted by senior Jessica Schuetz, then the next two came from Marissa Basi.
It was 3-0 at the break.
Basi scored the first goal of the second half with an assist from Clark, then Clark scored her fourth with a pass from Nicole Szidik, then Szidik scored off a pass from Paige Newlin as Marion put in three goals in just over a two-minute stretch.
The Lady Wildcats tried desperately to get Schuetz a goal in the final minutes -- Schuetz is the team's only senior -- but several shots just missed.
During that stretch, Clark got free for her fifth goal with Szidik marked for an assist.
Marion improved to 15-3-2 with the victory.
The Lady Wildcats host Belleville East on Friday, then play Carbondale on May 8 as part of "Pack the Park" day with baseball and softball also hosting the Terriers.
