CARTERVILLE -- Kayla Walker scored 31 points to lead Murphysboro to a 53-29 rout of Herrin in the opening round of the Carterville 3A Regional in girls basketball Monday night.
Murphysboro (17-10) advanced to face Olney Richland County in Tuesday night's semifinals, while Herrin's season ended at 6-20.
The Red Devils led 14-8 after one quarter and were up by 15 points in the second quarter before Herrin's Ashton Hawk hit a 3-pointer and a free throw to make it 26-15 at halftime.
Murphysboro opened it up in the third period. A three-point play by Walker at the 2:38 mark gave the Red Devils a 37-15 lead.
Herrin stopped that run with a basket from Layla Wade and a three-point play by Hakw cut it to 37-20 but Murphysboro took a 41-22 lead into the fourth and added to the lead.
